MEDIA, NEWS & EVENTSRoll up, roll up to the Engineering Circus05 October 2006
This week Engineering students are taking a break from their usual lectures, tutorials and lab work. Instead, they have the opportunity to take part in an Engineering Circus as part of UNSW’s Engineering Week activities. The Circus, which is designed to demonstrate the real-world practice of engineering and why it is so important to society, runs from noon to 5pm on Friday 6 October and is open to all students. The entertainment will include detonations, deflagrations and BLEVEs (the flammable gas combustion phenomena that some chemical engineers spend their careers trying to avoid), as well as demonstrations of how a jet engine operates, how to make ballistic gelatin, and whether CO2 sequestration can allow us to continue using fossil fuels without exacerbating global climate change. Most Schools within the Faculty have coordinated activities around Engineering Week which runs from 3 to 6 October. For more information go to the Faculty of Engineering website. |
