Against the rising tide

The problems faced by the Pacific region in mitigating and adapting to climate change will be the focus of a conference at the University of New South Wales this week (Thursday, November 6)
The Law Faculty’s 2nd Biennial Ingram Colloquium will examine the legal, policy, technological and practical challenges facing countries trying to combat climate change while also meeting their social and economic needs.
Also to be explored is how Pacific states are positioning themselves in negotiations on a post-2012 instrument to replace the Kyoto Protocol, what the role of these states will be in the new regime, and how governance of climate-related policy issues might be improved.

The Ingram Colloquium was established to provide an interdisciplinary forum for the exchange of ideas and to sharpen debate and enhance research on current issues of international law and development having special regard to the concerns of developing
countries. It is named after Mr James Ingram AO, former Australian diplomat and former Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Program.
