Artist statement

Somewhere in Between (2023) is a triptych drawing series that depicts the cultural hybridisation of my experiences as a Chinese-Vietnamese residing in Australia. Over the course of several weeks, willow charcoal has been layered to manipulate tonal densities, reflecting the dissolution of my identity. This artwork delves into the complexities faced by cultural chameleons as they balance belonging, authenticity, and adaptability, within a world where they have yet to find a place of their own.
