Description

This PhD research project aims to work on a desalination technology based on a novel ion‑exchange resin regeneration process that significantly increases regeneration efficiency while reducing chemical waste and eliminating the need for strong acids and bases. This regeneration method uses ammonium bicarbonate (AB) and pressure-assisted desorption to achieve high recovery of ions from mixed‑bed resins, as demonstrated in multi‑cycle laboratory experiments presented in recent studies. The project will investigate the thermodynamics, selectivity, and kinetics of AB driven regeneration, optimise resin performance across repeated desalination cycles, and advance prototype systems.
