Description of field of research:

The project will have the student develop case studies of Hybrid (solar, battery, wind, diesel) Microgrids in Australia. For each site, through information provided by and discussions with, the Hybrid Microgrid operator, the student will identify and document design and operational aspects of Hybrid Microgrids. Assessing each operation and creating the case study will require both technical and data analysis. Feedback from operators/industry on SPREE course SOLA9104 Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems will also be sought to help align it with industry needs.

School

Photovoltaic and Renewable Energy Engineering

Research areas

Hybrid renewable microgrids | Solar | Battery | Wind | Distributed energy resources | Power flow algorithms and control | Energy data analysis

This is expected to be a desktop study, although the student may have the opportunity to visit hybrid microgrid sites

  • Industry exposure and an increase in technical knowledge of, and data analysis related to, Hybrid Microgrids for the student
  • Selection of Hybrid Microgrid case studies detailing design and operational aspects
  • New content to build activities for SPREE course SOLA9104 Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems
  • Feedback from operators/industry on SPREE course SOLA9104 Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems to help align it with industry needs.
