Hydrogen can naturally occur in the underground, just like natural gas. In Australia, hydrogen gas was detected in a gas well drilled in South Australia back in 1930, where the hydrogen is believed to be sourced from Cambrian granite basement. This project aims to simulate hydrogen production from fractured granite basement ussing commercial software e.g CMG, Petrol. It will be highly related with on-going hydrogen company project. Some geological data, well logging, coring data will be provided for the simulation.

School

Research Area

Natural hydrogen | Reservoir simulation

The student will be closely working with relevant industry partners under the supervision of Dr. Yu Jing.

Outstanding candidate could be further funded to continue the topic to the next level. Business trips and conference oppotunities could be provided if necessary. This project is a potential pathway to a MPhil/PhD project.
