The 2015 Paris Agreement set targets to limit the increase in the global average temperature. Current emissions reduction efforts are insufficient to meet them. Consequently, there is increasing discussion of so‐called “climate engineering” approaches to compliment emissions reductions. Prof Lawrence examines several aspects of the geoengineering alternatives including the removal of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and geoengineering aimed at directly altering the Earth’s radiation budget.
