Evaluating Starlight Captains

We're working with caregivers and healthcare professionals to develop a way to assess the Captain Starlight program.

Personalise
Starlight Children's Foundation Starlight Captains with Anabela

The Starlight Children’s Foundation runs Captain Starlight programs, where professional performers, known as Captain Starlights, engage with patients in children’s hospitals across Australia.

The impact of the Captain Starlight program has been evaluated before. We want to design a way to consistently and systematically measure the program to make sure it meets the needs of families.

What does this study aim to achieve?

We aim to determine the best surveys and methods to evaluate the Captain Starlight programs for children and their caregivers during their hospital stay.

Who can participate?

This study will open soon for recruitment

You are eligible to participate if you are a caregiver or healthcare professional who has cared for a child who has engaged with a Starlight Captain during their hospital stay (within Australia) in the last 24 months.

What does participation involve?

This study will open soon for recruitment

We will conduct a 30-minute interview with you via telephone or videoconference. The interview will explore your and your child’s experiences with Starlight Captains, and your preferences for participation in ongoing evaluations of the program. For example, we might ask, “What do you think is important to include in evaluations that Starlight does about their program in the future?”

These interviews may be conducted by Dr Holly Evans, and/or trained researchers with experience in conducting interviews with families. Your perspectives and experiences with Starlight Captains will then be used to inform how the program is evaluated in the future. Participation will not cost you anything and you will not be paid.
