Several men in the Macquarie Fields area of New South Wales (NSW), particularly those older and unemployed, were seen to be vulnerable to health problems and social isolation. In addition, some men lacked support in accessing health services and information.
Project workers and collaborators secured and established a safe and welcoming space in existing premises in the area for men to facilitate access to health information and services and opportunities for social interaction, training and future social enterprise.
The project increased advocacy which led to successful funding for a larger space and an appointment of a coordinator to facilitate access and activities. It also significantly improved awareness and knowledge of health services and information among men in the area.
