Affordable Housing Network UNSW PhD Scholarship

This Scholarship is for PhD candidates to conduct research on housing in Australia.

The successful applicant will undertake research relating to one or more of the following priority themes: 

  • Accelerate Home Supply (e.g. design, develop and build for improved affordability and performance ; support the equitable delivery and distribution of homes)
  • Shift Perceptions (e.g. change attitudes about housing consumption and investment; change approaches to housing management and participation; change responses to homelessness;)
  • Utilize Existing Stock (e.g. repurpose non-residential stock; upgrade existing housing; bring under-used capacity into use)

The Scholarship will support research to build towards more affordable and sustainable housing solutions in Australia.

Scholarship

  • $39,207 per annum (2026 rate, indexed), 3.5 years

Eligibility

  • Domestic candidates
  • New candidates
  • Full time enrolment (part-time may be considered on application)

Selection Criteria

  • Academic merit
  • A degree in social science, economics, law, engineering or other discipline relevant to housing and the built environment.
  • Research proposal with a focus on housing affordability in Australia.
  • Quality and relevance of research proposal to housing affordability in Australia that addresses one or more of the three priority themes above.

How to Apply

  1. Ensure you satisfy the admission criteria (under the Entry Requirements tab) for the PhD. You must also ensure you meet the UNSW English Language Requirements.
  2. Follow the Faculty of Arts, Design & Architecture Expression of Interest (EOI) process. You should discuss your intention to apply for the Affordable Housing Network Scholarship with your proposed supervisor. Please include the scholarship in the funding section of the EOI form, and in your email when submitting your Expression of Interest.
