This webinar will present a review of all fatal poisonings related to novel synthetic opioids (NSOs) in Australia from 2000-2021.
‘Novel’ synthetic opioids have emerged as a clinical and public health concern across the world. In this webinar Professor Darke will has present a national clinical profile of all Australian fatalities related to these drugs. This will include case characteristics and circumstances of death, the toxicology of cases, and major autopsy findings.
About the speaker
Professor Shane Darke is a leading world expert on opioid dependence and the health effects associated with illicit drug use. He has worked at the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre since 1988. He has published more than 300 articles and six books, and is listed in the top 0.1% of substance dependence researchers worldwide. He has written many seminal works, particularly on opioid overdose.
