Cardiologist Professor Gemma Figtree of the Kolling Institute of Medical Research at Royal North Shore Hospital will present a guest lecture on the effects of regular cocaine use on the cardiovascular system. Her talk will be based on research recently undertaken with colleagues at the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC) at UNSW and published in April 2014 in PLOS ONE: Regular cocaine use is associated with increased systolic blood pressure, aortic stiffness and left ventricular mass in young, otherwise healthy individuals.

This lecture is being presented as part of NDARC's regular seminar series.
