This seminar will describe the steps involved in embedding research into practice and explore its potential uses

This seminar will examine the research that the Aboriginal drug and alcohol residential rehabilitation services in NSW have undertaken in collaboration with NDARC.  Specifically, it will identify the overall process that is guiding the program of research and highlight the key outputs at each stage in the process. It will conclude by exploring how these research outputs can be utilised to improve client outcomes in as close to real-time as possible.

Speaker Bio:

Professor Anthony Shakeshaft, Deputy Director, of the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC), UNSW Sydney.

Anthony's key research interest is in partnering with service providers to evaluate the impact of services and public policy. In the last 20 years he has published the results of more than 50 evaluations of health and social services, whole-of-community harm prevention interventions and public policy initiatives. He has a particular interest in collaborating with Indigenous services and organisations, and in developing Indigenous research capacity through active support of Indigenous higher degree students.  Most recently he has been working to develop research methods and processes that can be embedded into the routine delivery of services, with the aim of improving client outcomes in as close to real-time as possible.
