Substance use is a key preventable risk factor for all causes of serious injury. This seminar will focus on the prevention of substance-related injuries, with a focus on the challenges associated with measuring alcohol and other drug involvement in injury events. Findings from a recent study on the prevalence of alcohol and other drug detections in seriously injured patients at The Alfred Hospital will be presented.

About this speaker:

Dr Georgina Lau is a Research Fellow working at the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at Monash University. Her research focuses on improving the measurement and prevention of injury events involving alcohol and other drugs. She was awarded a Westpac Future Leaders Scholarship in 2020 to support her research and is currently Chair of the Alcohol and Other Drugs Subcommittee for the Australasian Injury Prevention Network.
