This presentation will discuss the use of opioids for chronic non-cancer pain, particularly in the context of increasing pharmacovigilance.

This webinar will cover the use of opioids for treatment of chronic non-cancer pain and will include a brief overview of the use of opioid medicines for treating CNCP, the issues associated with their use, and the shifting landscape in which these medicines are being prescribed.

The impact of changes in medicine access on people with chronic pain will be presented using findings from two recent studies: a longitudinal cohort study and a qualitative interview study.

About the speaker

Ria Hopkins is a PhD candidate and researcher at the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre, UNSW Sydney. She has a background in epidemiology, pharmacy, and public health. Her current work includes projects aimed at identifying and addressing issues in health service use and access by people with chronic non-cancer pain, including people prescribed opioid medicines. She is particularly interested in healthcare policy and the impact of opioid prescribing restrictions and increased attention on opioid-related harms on people living with chronic pain.
