I graduated from the University of New England with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in physics followed by a PhD degree in theoretical physics (solid state). I subsequently worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC, USA, studying the phase-change behaviour of hydrogen in niobium alloys. I joined Defence Science and Technology Group in Melbourne, Australia, in 1987. I am currently a Senior Research Scientist working on vibro-acoustics, wave diffraction and novel materials for underwater coatings. This entails mathematical modelling of material properties, finite element modelling and acoustic measurements.
