This research proposes a space definition framework to categorize built environments into indoor, outdoor, semi-indoor and semi-outdoor spaces, because contemporary public buildings and precincts are becoming conglomerates of open, semi-open and closed spaces. Such classification allows all environments to be extracted as 3D spaces (volumes) and share the same space-based navigation network extraction approach, further enabling seamless indoor/outdoor path computation.

My research is going to develop a framework to construct a unified 3D spatial model for space-subdivision-based pedestrian navigation in indoor and outdoor, that can take into account specific contexts.
