Professor Keir Winesmith

Prof. Keir Winesmith is a strategic consultant and academic working at the intersection of digital and culture. He advises museums, galleries, libraries, archives and universities on digital transformation initiatives and the development of new digital experiences, while undertaking interdisciplinary research at UNSW Art & Design. He is currently the Digital Collections Catalyst in Residence at the State Library of Queensland, co-convener of the bi-monthly Cultural Data Salon and recently published The Digital Future of Museums: Conversations and Provocations with Dr. Suse Anderson (Routledge, 2020).

For the last 15 years, he has been exploring new ways to use digital to connect people to culture and place. In 2018 he was named in Fast Company's 100 Most Creative in Business for his work in this area.

Winesmith has produced and collaborated on a range of award-winning digital and cultural projects in Australia, Europe and the United States. His work has been featured in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, San Francisco Chronicle, National Public Radio, Australian Broadcasting Service, Radio NZ, WIRED magazine and others.

Prof. Winesmith hold a Ph.D. in New Media (UNSW), and degrees in Computer Science and Physics (USYD). He serves on the Board of Directors of the Museum Computer Network and speaks about the intersection of digital, culture and place at forums including South by Southwest, AIGA, Museums and the Web, Nation Digital Form, AMaGA, MuseumNext, REMIX and MCN.
