Dr Sonja Memedovic is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow within the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre at the University of New South Wales (UNSW Sydney). She completed a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) in 2008 and a PhD in Public Health and Community Medicine in 2018, at UNSW Sydney.
Sonja has worked in the substance use research field since 2009, focusing predominantly on the intersection between substance use and mental health among vulnerable and marginalised populations. Her research aims to improve understanding of the risk and protective factors that are common to substance use and mental health disorders, with the goal of using this knowledge to inform the development of effective interventions for these conditions.
Sonja currently leads the UnLEASH study, a longitudinal online cohort study examining substance use patterns, and risk and protective factors for use, among lesbian, bisexual and queer women in Australia.
