I am an experimental condensed matter physicist and lead the superconducting quantum device laboratory in the School of Physics. I pioneered development of superconducting quantum bits, novel methods for control and sensing of single-charge transport, and microwave quantum optics. My current focus is low dimensional quantum metamaterials based on nanostructured Josephson junction arrays. In addition, I collaborate with UNSW’s Climate Change Research Centre on the topic of atmospheric science and in particular, convection.
I am also a private pilot, actively flying both single-engine aircraft and gliders. In gliders, I have achieved the gliding FAI Silver C badge, Gold and Diamond distance flights, and hold a Level 1 Instructor rating.
