Student support

University is a unique experience and it can be daunting. That’s why we have a number of services and support networks that can help you with the transition. After all, we want you to feel supported. Here’s how we can help:

Student Equity and Disabilities Unit
Don’t battle with your degree. If you have a disability, medical condition or difficult personal circumstance that impacts on your study, we offer a range of services, support and advice through our Educational Liaison. We’ve already helped thousands of students achieve their academic best.

Also, if you have experienced long-term educational disadvantage such as illness or financial hardship our Access Scheme will provide you with support.

ASPIRE
ASPIRE is another great program which actively goes into schools to support the aspirations of high school students to help them see that a university education could be a reality.

The Learning Centre
You may not know how to write a report or essay at a university standard when you first start, but that’s okay. The Learning Centre helps UNSW students learn key skills to improve their academic work through workshops, faculty or discipline-based programs, individual consultations and self-access materials. You can discover more at lc.unsw.edu.au

Nura Gili – Indigenous Programs
Indigenous knowledge, culture and histories are important at UNSW and we embrace them with many great programs such as Winter school, Walama Muru program or school and community visits. Learn more about how you can get involved at Nura Gili - nuragili.unsw.edu.au

Rural Students
We know that as a rural student, you may face different challenges being away from your community, family and friends. We offer many great support services, campus activities and study options to assist you with the transition.

Specific programs for you as a rural student include rural entry schemes (the ACCESS Scheme and Medicine Rural Student Entry Scheme), rural mentoring programs, and scholarships for first year rural students.

Mentoring
We know that when starting somewhere new, it is nice to have someone that can help you. Many faculties and schools support their first year students at UNSW through allocated mentors who provide advice and assistance. Ask your Faculty Office about the mentoring programs they provide when you enrol.
