Getting Started Services
A range of support services for new commencing students in Semester 1 2012 will be available in the Library on Level 2 (ground floor) from Thursday 19 January to Friday 9 March 2012 to assist with Enrolment, Student ID Cards and IT Support. Classes for Semester 1 2012 start the week commencing Monday 27 February 2012 and O-Week activities run from 20-24 February.
UniPass
Create your UniPass
1. What is a UniPass?
UniPass is a password that you use; together with your UNSW login ID, to access a selection of UNSW Online Services.
2. What does my UniPass allow me to do?
This UniPass will allow you to access to myUNSW, click 'Accept Online' to accept an offer from UNSW.
3. How do I create my Unipass?
To create your UniPass you will need your UNSW ID (e.g. z1234567) or your UAC Number. Once you have your UNSW ID/UAC Number you can then visit the IDM website to create your UniPass: https://idm.unsw.edu.au/idm/user/login.jsp

Offer
How to accept or defer your offer
1. How do I accept or defer my offer?
Read the information provided with your offer, and be sure to accept your offer by the deadline. Log onto myUNSW using your UNSW ID and your UniPass to accept/defer your offer.
2. How do I log onto myUNSW?
Click the Sign on tab and use your UNSW ID and UniPass. Once you are logged in click on the My Applications tab and follow the instructions.
3. How long can I defer my offer?
You may apply for deferment of your enrolment for up to 12 months.
4. Students wishing to accept their Semester 2 offer can also do so online, however Part 2 of accept online which allows class enrolments for semester 2 will not be available until sometime in May.

How to enrol
1. Before you enrol
Consult the UNSW Handbook to read information relating to your program structure and for help on determining which courses you are required to enrol in.
2. Need further assistance?
You can attend an academic advising day: www.unsw.edu.au/enrolmentadvice or contact your Program Office for advice: www.unsw.edu.au/programoffice
3. Ready to enrol?
At UNSW, you manage your enrolment online, via myUNSW. You can complete your enrolment at the same time you accept your offer OR you can log on again later and complete your enrolment up until 26 February 2012. When you have decided which courses you would like to enrol in simply log onto myUNSW and enrol. Further information and a step by step guide can be found at:

Note: If you are an international student and are required to pay a deposit there may be a delay before you can enrol in courses.
4. Enrolment for semester 2, 2012 will be available in May 2012.
5. Enrolment for semester 1, 2013 will be available in October 2012.

Quick Tip

How to apply for credit transfer
1. Am I eligible?
If you have studied at another higher education institution you may be able to count towards some or all of your courses (subjects).
2. Contact your Faculty/School
Some Faculties and Schools may require you to contact them before lodging an application for credit transfer in order to advise you about any specific credit transfer academic advising days that you may have to attend.
3. How do I apply?
You need to complete an application for Credit Transfer and must attach certified copies of your academic transcript/s and course descriptions to your application form.

Student ID & email
How to access your student email
1. Create a zPass
To access your student email (zMail) you first need to create a zPass.
2. What is a zPass and how do I create my zPass?
A zPass is a password that you use along with your UNSW User ID to access online services including your email. Once you have accepted your offer and enrolled in at least one course you will need to create your zPass by visiting https://idm.unsw.edu.au/idm/user/login.jsp

3. How to I access my student email (zMail)?
Now that you have created your zPass you can access your UNSW student email account. To do this go to www.zmail.unsw.edu.au

How to get your UNSW Student ID card
1. What is my UNSW student ID card used for?
UNSW issues ID Cards to all students. ID cards have many uses, including electronic building access and library borrowing and must be carried with you at all times as evidence of the right to be on campus.
2. When can I get my card?
You will need to wait 24 hours after you have completed your enrolment before you can obtain a student card. Please note Student ID cards for students commencing in S1 2012 will be available from 19 January 2012 and students are encouraged to pick up their cards prior to Orientation once enrolment is complete.
Quick Tip To obtain your ID card please visit FM Assist. FM Assist is one of the support services for students located in the Library during the Getting Started period. Please ensure that you bring with you your student ID number and proof of identity such as a Passport or Australian Drivers Licence. FM Assist can also be contacted on 9385 5111 or id.cards@unsw.edu.au.
Is your name correct on your myUNSW account?
Please ensure that the name on your University record matches your official name on your proof of identification before collecting your student ID card. To have your University record updated to your official name you will need to complete the Correction or Change of Personal Details form: www.unsw.edu.au/changename. Please lodge your completed form at the Enrolment Support Centre, level 2, Library.
Full time domestic students are entitled to apply for transport concession. To apply download and complete a transport concession form.
Fees
1. Do I need to pay tuition Fees?
The majority of students are required to pay tuition fees or student contribution charges. For more information see the Fees Information page.
2. How do I pay?
Fee Statements are normally produced 2 weeks before the start of each semester. Fees statements for Semester 1 2012 will be available from mid February. Fee Statements are available via your myUNSW account. To access your fees statement, go to the Student Profile tab, click on Fee Statement and Payment Options then View Details. This will show your Fee Statement. Click the Payment Options button at the bottom of the page to make a payment.
3. When do I pay?
Each teaching period has a payment due date which is the end of the first week of Semester – your payment due date will be on your fee statement.
The Census Date is the date on which all enrolment and payment arrangements must be finalised. Requests for Commonwealth Assistance or payment support will not be approved after this date. Each Teaching Period within a Semester has a Census Date. These dates will be shown on your Fee Statement against your enrolment, and are also available on the University website.
International students
Advice for International Students
1. Where can I find arrival information?
Airport Pick-Up Service from the international terminal of Kingsford Smith Airport Sydney to the Student Development International Welcome Centre, UNSW Main Campus. Bookings are essential.
2. Where can I find advice and information on campus?
The Welcome Centre is a recommended first port of call for newly arrived international students at UNSW. At the Welcome Centre student volunteers or staff members will give you information about settling in to Sydney and UNSW, tell you about the range of orientation events and activities aimed at international students, and assist you with any questions you might want answered. This website will also provide information on the StepUp program for International Students and Arrival Essentials.
3. Where can I find advice and information about accommodation and housing?
International Student Housing Assistance (ISHA) and the UNSW Housing Gateway Site are two helpful services which provide assistance and information on accommodation for UNSW students.
4. Still have lots of questions about studying at UNSW?
Visit the Student Development – International (SDI) website for information about services and programs available to international students.
Keeping in touch
How do I keep in touch?
1. Email
UNSW uses email to communicate official alerts to students and you should then log onto myUNSW to read all of the information. You are required to check your university email regularly.
Internet and email workstations are located in the University Library and other places on campus.
You may also access your email or myUNSW via wireless (UniWide) across campus.
2. myUNSW
myUNSW is your gateway to the administrative and information services you need throughout the different phases of your relationship with UNSW, from accepting your offer, right up to graduation. Services include:
- Assistance for commencing students preparing for enrolment
- Updating your contact details and maintaining your personal statistics online
- HECS-HELP and FEE-HELP - lets you apply for Commonwealth support or vary your payment options online
- View assessment results and academic standing - check your results when they are released
- Academic records - produce and print an unofficial academic transcript
- Graduations - check your graduation and ceremony status, and vary your details
- My Announcements is where you will find important messages and reminders from UNSW to you
- My News and Events brings you the latest news at UNSW
