Australasian Finance & Banking Conference

The 34th Australasian Finance and Banking Conference (AFBC) is organised by the Institute of Global Finance and the School of Banking and Finance, UNSW Business School. The Conference will be held on 15th–17th December 2021.

The AFBC is the most significant and prestigious finance conference in the Asia-Pacific region. It brings together the world's foremost leaders of thought from the financial community, providing international academics and industry professionals with the opportunity to meet and share their research and interest in finance-related fields. The Conference Committee would like to invite all academics and practitioners to participate.

The Special  Theme of this year’s conference- in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank- is:

Global Climate Change: Challenges and Opportunities 

The issues to be discussed include how to enhance global collective efforts and build the capacity to sustain these efforts over time. Some issues and themes to be considered include: What are the required ingredients, policies and measures; What level of collaboration at firm, country and global levels is required to accelerate the pace and scale of technological breakthroughs; What are some of the challenges and opportunities associated with  ESG; How  can ESG be effectively incorporated into portfolio assets; What are the key elements needed to develop effective policies and measures for climate finance; What role does corporate governance play in contributing to the process of managing challenges associated with climate change etc.

A range of prizes are available for papers that are selected for presentation at the conference.

  • When: Wednesday 15th to Friday 17th December 2021.  The PhD Forum will be held on Tuesday 14th December 2021.

As part of the annual Australasian Finance and Banking Conference, UNSW will host a forum for advanced Finance Doctoral Students who are currently working on their dissertation.

Registration deadline for accepted papers: October 1st 2021

When: Tuesday, 14th December 2021

The 34th AFBC will include a PhD Forum for advanced Finance Doctoral Students who are currently working on their dissertation.

The one-day forum will offer accepted students the unique opportunity to present their dissertation proposals and have their work discussed by distinguished academics from top business schools in the US, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region.

Throughout the seminar, students will receive valuable advice about career development from leading scholars and will discuss recent developments in finance literature with fellow students and faculty members.

Submission and Acceptance to the PhD Forum

All papers submitted to the PhD Forum are primarily considered for the AFBC on 15th-17th December. This is done as one submission, where the author can indicate their interest in being considered for the PhD Forum.

Acceptance to the main conference is sent out before PhD Forum offer letters. Therefore, papers accepted for presentation at the PhD Forum are always also accepted for presentation at the main conference.

Submission Deadline

The submission deadline is Friday 30th July and the same date as the submission deadline for the main conference.

Delegates not presenting a paper may register until the conference date.
