Overview

In this online, self-paced course, you will explore the relationship between Chinese domestic politics and its international strategy. You will examine how internal political dynamics influence China's strategic decisions on the global stage, moving beyond simplistic portrayals of strongman politics to uncover the intricate connections between governance and foreign policy.

Through foundational concepts, case studies, and expert analysis, you'll gain a deeper understanding of China's political landscape and develop the skills to anticipate future trends in its political and strategic frameworks. No prior knowledge is required.

This is a self-paced course delivered entirely online. The course consists of 10 modules including pre-recorded video lessons and supplementary resources. You can register at any time and will receive three months access to complete the course.

Facilitators

Dr Jian Zhang

Dr. Jian Zhang is the Associate Dean Education (ADE) at UNSW Canberra at ADFA and is an Associate Professor in International and Political Studies in the School of Humanities & Social Sciences (HASS). Jian has held previous leadership roles within HASS as the Acting Head of School and Deputy Head of School (Teaching), prior to the appointment of ADE.

Jian’s primary research interests are Chinese foreign and security policy, China's military modernisation, Asia-Pacific security and Australia-China relations.

This course is part of a portfolio of Security & Defence PLuS educational offerings including short courses, executive education, and advanced degrees that: expand knowledge of AUKUS and its implications; build technical literacy in key areas, like nuclear, cyber, and hypersonics; build international and national security-focused business skills; and enhance understanding of emerging concepts, like mission engineering, and their applications.
