James McDonagh
James McDonagh is a PhD candidate in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at UNSW Canberra. After completing a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) at the University of Newcastle, where he focused on uncovering evidence of Australian military suicide through oral history research, he expanded this work into his doctoral studies.
His PhD thesis examines and contextualises military trauma, military suicide, and institutional responses in Australia during and in the immediate aftermath of the Second World War. The project is supervised by Dr Margaret Hutchison and Associate Professor David Stahel.
James's research interests include cultural history, the history of veterans' affairs, military trauma, wargaming and Australian military history broadly.
