Canberra's efforts to become a global leader in cyber security are set to be taken up a notch with the capital's first ever cyber career expo to be held later this month as part of the Unchartered Territory innovation festival.
The free event is set to attract Australia's next generation of cyber security experts and is targeted at school leavers, university students and anyone looking to make a career move into cyber security.
The event is being hosted by Canberra Cyber Hub and sponsored by the University of New South Wales Canberra (UNSW) and will feature meet and greet booths where local, national and global businesses will have their cyber security experts on hand to talk about employment opportunities and explain what a career in cyber security looks like in their business.
Held in the Kambri precinct at ANU on 13 July, the event will also feature a number of keynote talks and panel discussions on a range of topics, including the important role women play in cyber, first-hand accounts from other young early-career cyber professionals, and the latest research and technology being used to combat cybercrime.
Dr Michael Frater, Chair, Canberra Cyber Hub said the event is one that shouldn't be missed for anyone considering a career in cyber security.
"This event is a fantastic opportunity to meet face-to-face with leading Canberra cyber employers and businesses to learn more about the industry and discuss career options," Dr Frater said.
"You will also be able to meet with cyber training and education providers to uncover the best training and education course to upskill for a career in cyber security."
Professor Mike Brennan, the Director of UNSW Canberra's Institute for Cyber Security said being able to listen to other professionals who are in the early stages of their cyber career or who have switched careers into cyber security will show that working in cyber is rewarding and full of opportunities.
"There is nothing like hearing from others with first-hand experience in beginning a career in cyber or who have transitioned from another field into cyber security, and the event will allow you hear about their experiences face-to-face," Prof Brennan said.
"The event will also provide a rare opportunity to network with talented industry professionals and it will allow you to expand your knowledge and connect with others who share your passion for cyber security."
