UNSW Virology Research Lab
Advancing virology research at Prince of Wales Hospital
We investigate how viruses infect, spread and cause disease
The VRL focuses on molecular virology and viral pathogenesis. Our work spans molecular to population scales, generating insights that connect fundamental virology with effective public health responses to emerging and evolving viral threats.
Together, our researchers, scientists and students study viruses such as cytomegalovirus (CMV), hepatitis C virus (HCV), human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and respiratory viruses including SARS-CoV-2, influenza and enteroviruses.
Access to cutting-edge viral surveillance technologies
Collaborative research with published international impact
State-of-the-art facilities and established networks
We advance discovery through collaboration
UNSW's VRL drives breakthroughs by bringing together curious minds. Our laboratory offers research internships, project collaborations, and PhD and postdoctoral positions for scientists, researchers and students – from UNSW and around the world.
Our laboratory is based at Prince of Wales Hospital in Randwick, within NSW's South East Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD). Right next to UNSW's Kensington campus.
Our work shapes global health
Research at UNSW’s Virology Research Lab targets the novel, emerging and clinically significant viruses that impact adults and children today, whilst addressing threats that may impact world population health in the future.
