Expertise

Dr Chan is a Senior Research Associate and Data Scientist with over 12 years of experience across the technology industry and academia in Australia, Hong Kong, and Canada. His expertise spans artificial intelligence (AI), data science, algorithm development, biomedical data analytics, and digital health technologies. With a strong engineering background, he specialises in leveraging data and advanced analytical methods to support evidence-based decision-making in healthcare. His work includes the development and evaluation of AI applications for electronic medical records (EMRs), implementation of algorithms for biomedical data analysis, and the design of robust data pipelines that integrate diverse data sources to support clinical research and innovation. 

Dr Chan also contributes to the development of secure research infrastructure at UNSW. As a member of the Trusted Research Environment (TRE) Advisory Group, he supports the design, implementation, and continuous enhancement of secure platforms for managing and analysing sensitive research data. Through this role, he works closely with UNSW IT and research stakeholders to strengthen TRE capabilities and enable secure, scalable, and efficient research workflows across a range of projects.

His research and technical expertise combine AI, advanced analytics, and digital infrastructure to generate actionable evidence, improve patient safety, and support the translation of research into clinical practice. He collaborates closely with implementation scientists, healthcare professionals, and technical experts to ensure that innovative technologies are effectively developed, rigorously evaluated, and successfully integrated into healthcare and research settings.
