Making precision cancer care routine

The Precision Care Initiative is dedicated to advancing precision cancer care across Australia. Our Clinic offers a molecular interpretation service to support clinicians to integrate genomic insights into the care pathways of their patients.

Based at Prince of Wales Hospital, our data driven clinic is informed by biomedical, patient, and health services research. We facilitate precision care by supporting clinical decision-making and investigating strategies to drive scale-up of precision care in Australia. We continuously refine our approach based on ongoing evidence-driven insights.

Our vision

Making precision care routine…

We envision a future where the unique advantages of our precision care model will compel this service to become an integral part of every Australian cancer care centre.

“The responsiveness was wonderful and I felt they were really looking at the question in a different way. I really needed to try and get it as right as I could and it was clearly out of my area of expertise. I felt I owed it to this lady to get another group to answer that question.”

A unique feature of the Precision Care Initiative is our innovative implementation research operating alongside our clinical service. We are continually co-designing our clinic and implementation strategies in response to the evolving needs of clinicians and patients. Read about our research here.

Our clinical services

Guided by evolving research, we provide a precision oncology service that is clinically guided and accessible to clinicians and patients across Australia. We achieve this by:

  • A fortnightly, virtual Molecular Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) to facilitate multi-disciplinary case discussion and contextual interpretation of molecular findings.
  • Fortnightly telehealth and in-person clinic consults, if required, to assist patient care, explain molecular findings, and discuss implications with patients.
  • Recommending pathways for treatment and further testing, including germline testing, integrated with patients’ current care plan.
  • Providing a formal structure for peer discussion to support clinical decision-making.

Please see our MDT and clinic schedule here

MDT discussions are online. Where appropriate, telehealth and in-person patient consultations are available to support clinicians and patients nation-wide.
