Kaldor Centre’s Emerging Scholars Network (UNSW)
– is a global group of graduate and early-career scholars whose work impacts on refugee and migration issues. Sharing ideas across disciplines and institutions, members bring expertise in areas as diverse as migration law, refugee mental health, history, political theory, and climate change-related displacement. Each year FMRN and co‑hosts interdisciplinary research workshops with the Kaldor Centre, helping train the next generation of scholars and jointly disseminate findings and new knowledge on refugee law, policy and practice.
Global Academic Interdisciplinary Network (GAIN)
A UNHCR‑led network under the Global Compact on Refugees. GAIN brings universities together to conduct joint research and develop evidence-based recommendations for refugee protection. FMRN participated in the inaugural meeting to establish the network. Membership of GAIN gives FMRN access to international research collaborations and policy dialogues.
Scholars at Risk Network (SAR)
A global network that protects at‑risk academics and promotes academic freedom. Through SAR, FMRN can support UNSW to host threatened scholars, bring their expertise into teaching and research, and highlight human rights issues across disciplines.
USRN (University Social Responsibility Network)
USRN unites global thought leaders to share ideas, resources, and practices that shape the future of higher education. By partnering with USRN, FMRN amplifies its mission to advocate for inclusive education—raising awareness of policies and practices that remove barriers and create opportunities for refugee learners.
The Australian Human Rights Institute
The Australian Human Rights Institute produces world-leading research and advances debate on critical human rights issues. By partnering with the Institute, FMRN amplifies scholarship that drives systemic change, prioritising research grounded in lived experience.
United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
The UN agency for refugees. FMRN partners with UNHCR to attend high level consultations, forums and Executive Committee meetings, where it presents research findings and advocates for policy change. The collaboration ensures FMRN’s work informs international protection norms.
Asia Pacific Network of Refugees (APNOR)
A refugee‑led network. APNOR contributes lived experience to research projects, ensuring FMRN’s research reflects refugee perspectives and supports community‑driven advocacy.
Asia Pacific Refugee Rights Network (APRRN)
A regional coalition of civil‑society organisations. FMRN Co-convenor Dr Linda Bartolomei was one of the founding members in 2008. APRRN and FMRN have partnered on a number of research, advocacy and training initiatives. The partnership strengthens evidence informed, rights‑based advocacy and links researchers with practitioners in Asia and the Pacific.
Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS)
An international NGO providing education and social support for displaced people. FMRN has partnered with JRS in Kenya, Thailand and Australia in research related to refugee women and girls at risk for over 20 years.
Refugee Council of Australia (RCoA)
Australia’s peak refugee advocacy body. FMRN has collaborated with RCoA in evidence informed international advocacy at UNHCR Geneva since 2001.
Refugee Education Special Interest Group (RESIG)
A network focused on refugee education. By partnering with RESIG, FMRN support their work to improve education policies and practices for refugee learners, and co‑hosts seminars and policy roundtables.
