Naval history

The War Studies Research Group is home to the only Australian based academics focused on naval history.

Working closely with colleagues in the Maritime Security Research Group and the Naval Studies Centre, these scholars are uniquely well placed to conduct research into the Royal Australian Navy and Australia’s maritime context in both historical and contemporary settings.

Recent work has included contributions to a forthcoming edited collection on the Australian Chiefs of Naval Staff, exploration of HMAS Sydney’s deployment to Korea, and an examination of the procurement of the Anzac Class frigates. Much of this work is applied history, produced with an eye to informing current challenges and issues affecting the Royal Australian Navy, and Australia’s maritime interests.
