The Building CapaCITY/É for Sustainable Transportation project is a collaborative Australian-Canadian initiative aimed at accelerating the implementation of sustainable transport infrastructure to support healthier, more equitable, and environmentally friendly cities.
Focusing on All Ages and Abilities (AAA) bicycle networks and speed management interventions, the project seeks to understand how, why, and for whom these changes are introduced in diverse urban contexts.
With funding from the NHMRC and in partnership with the Victorian Department of Transport and Planning, the UNSW-Monash team will co-develop a novel implementation science framework, drawing on deep collaboration with Canadian cities and researchers.
By identifying practical and political barriers and enabling evidence-based, context-specific approaches, the project will deliver new tools and insights to help cities transition away from car dependency, promote active transport, and improve public health outcomes across Australia and beyond.
