Excecutive Summary:

This study arose from a collaboration between the North Coast Youth Vaping Taskforce (the Taskforce) and the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC) UNSW. It aimed to explore the perspectives of the members of the Taskforce around:

  1. The strengths of the Taskforce

  2. Challenges facing the Taskforce

  3. Satisfaction with the Taskforce

  4. Opportunities to improve Taskforce processes and operation

The key insights arising from this work are:

  1. The Taskforce is informed by the communities’ views, is collaborative, and shares and builds skills among its members.

  2. Youth vaping is a complex issue, and the Taskforce faces many challenges in providing an effective and sustained response.

  3. Satisfaction with the Taskforce is very high. Taskforce members valued the opportunities to build their own skills and knowledge around vaping and to see stakeholders come together to respond to vaping-related harms.

  4. Participants recommended reorganising Taskforce meetings; increasing participation of young people in the Taskforce, potentially through social media; shifting focus to Working Group meetings; and evaluating and reviewing the Action Plan activities.
