UNSW Aviation is moving into an exciting new phase of strategic growth with the promotion of the School Manager, Ms Lorda Omeissah, to a Business Development Manager (BDM) role. The focus will be on expanding the reach and impact of the School’s offerings domestically and internationally through strategic development and partner engagement. “Aviation in SE Asia is growing at an unprecedented rate and along with that comes the challenge of well-educated professionals to lead the industry. Engaging with these markets, often for the first time, will help create access for international students seeking an aviation degree from a Top 20 Global university,” says Ms Omeissah. Stepping in to cover the day-to-day operational role of the School Manager will be Ms Jamie Lim, former PG Program Coordinator.
The BDM hit the ground running with a visit to the Vietnam Aero Summit held in Hanoi in January, connecting with education agents and industry alike. The Vietnam Aero Summit was a great networking opportunity with a range of senior stakeholders from across the region, including Vietnam, Malaysia, Korea and Japan. Vietnam itself is one of the fastest-growing aviation markets globally and many opportunities for engagement were identified.
In February, the BDM attended the Singapore Air Show as part of the UNSW contingent with Austrade. The largest event of its kind in Asia with over 1000 trade stakeholders, the dominant theme of urban air mobility at the Singapore Air Show proved fertile ground for promotion of UNSW Aviation’s new RPAS program. The concept and structure of our new program was received with unanimous praise by major stakeholders in the UAM industry with many seeking further engagement. As a result, the BDM will be attending AAUS, Australia’s RPAS conference in Canberra in early March, to follow up with connections and opportunities that were made at the Singapore Air Show.
