Wings Night 2024 – Celebrating Our Graduates
UNSW Aviation celebrated the 2021 graduating cohorts of the Bachelor of Aviation (Flying) and Graduate Diploma in Flying programs.
A fantastic celebration of the award of UNSW Wings to the graduating students, presented by Dr Jeremy Robertson – former student and flying instructor at UNSW, now a CASA Designated Aviation medical Examiner, and Qantas 737 First Officer and Medical Officer.
Dr Robertson’s first career as a Qantas pilot was cut short by the diagnosis of type 1 diabetes, which is normally a career ending disease. The graduating students were inspired by Dr Roberston’s determination to regain his medical clearance first by becoming a medical doctor himself, then designing and implementing the medical procedures and monitoring that allowed him to begin flying again.
Having also spent time in GA in northern Australia. Dr Roberston’s experience and practical advice was well received by the graduating students.
Congratulations to the graduates and prize-winners.
Further congratulations goes to Nathan Vassallo and Andrew Gullotta who graduate as Flight Instructors with the Flying Operations Unit, where they will be able to impart the knowledge they have gained to aspiring aviators.
