A message from the Head of School

Australians speak hundreds of languages, ranging from First Nations languages to the global languages that new migrant communities have brought with them. It is more important than ever for all of us to learn from the richness of this linguistic and cultural diversity. In UNSW Languages Week, we celebrate and explore these languages and cultures.

- Professor Timothy O'Leary, Head of School, School of Humanities & Languages, ADA

Highlights

Opening Event

Attention all students! You're invited to the opening of our Languages Week. Get ready to dance, sing, enjoy delicious food, and have the time of your life.

Join us on the 3rd of October at 1pm @ the Library Lawn and let's celebrate in style. See you there!

  • 1:00pm: Welcome to Country and Introduction to UNSW Languages Week 2023.
  • 1.15pm: Multi-language singing performance with Colombian soprano Paola Monroy.

With over a decade of performance experience, Paola Monroy has been a pivotal Ambassador of the Latin-American and Colombian Art song repertoire in the Asia-Pacific region. Her tireless work has introduced this rich musical tradition to Australian audiences, making her the foremost Latin-American Soprano in this part of the world. In recent years, Paola Monroy has emerged not only as a remarkable opera singer and connoisseur of the Latin American classical repertoire but also as a versatile artist who fearlessly incorporates various musical genres into her repertoire, consistently achieving resounding success.

Paola will be singing in English, Spanish, German, Italian and Quechua- the most spoken indigenous language in the Americas.
