UNSW Canberra Engineering Work Experience Opportunities
Partner with UNSW Canberra School of Engineering and Technology to offer Engineering Work Experience opportunities to highly talented engineering students.
The School of Engineering and Technology (SET) at UNSW Canberra welcomes Defence organisations, Defence industry partners, government agencies, engineering companies and industries, engineering consulting firms, and all other engineering and technology-related employers to provide Engineering Work Experience (EWE) placement opportunities for our students.
SET offers Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Programs in:
- Aeronautical Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Naval Architecture
And Bachelor of Technology in:
- Aeronautical Engineering
Our Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and Bachelor of Technology programs are accredited by Engineers Australia, and students are required to complete approved engineering work experience as part of their degree requirements.
By hosting a student, your organisation can contribute to developing Australia's next generation of Defence engineers and engineering technologists while gaining access to highly motivated students with strong technical foundations.

Students may undertake placements in:
- Defence organisations and establishments.
- Engineering consulting firms.
- Infrastructure and construction companies.
- Manufacturing and advanced technology organisations.
- Aerospace organisations.
- Energy, resources, and utilities sectors.
- Research and development environments.
- Other engineering and technology workplaces where students can undertake meaningful technical work under the supervision of qualified engineers.
Suitable activities may include:
- Engineering design and analysis.
- Testing and evaluation.
- Systems engineering.
- Digital engineering.
- Project engineering.
- Applied research and development.
- Engineering operations and maintenance activities.

To be eligible for Engineering Work Experience, placements should:
- Provide exposure to real engineering or engineering technology activities.
- Allow students to develop competencies aligned with Engineers Australia Stage 1 Competencies.
- Be supervised by a suitably qualified engineering professional or as part of an engineering team.
- Include tasks representative of those undertaken by engineering professionals in the workplace.
Placements can be full-time or part-time.

Students are generally required to complete:
- 60 days of approved work experience for Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) programs.
- 40 days of approved work experience for Bachelor of Technology programs.
Students typically complete this requirement during the summer period (November–February) or in semester breaks.
