Instruction steps and images may vary slightly depending on the device version/type. You can check if your device type and operating system supports the Clearpass Onboard Requirements here.

Step 1

Establish an internet connection

If you are connecting on campus, connect to the “UNSW-GetOnline” Wi-Fi network. Note: Once your device is onboarded, you will need to forget the “UNSW-GetOnline” Wi-Fi network to automatically connect to eduroam when on UNSW campuses.

If you are connecting off campus, ensure that you have a reliable connection to download and install the Wi-Fi certificate.

Step 2

Select your device operating system

Visit the Get Online webpage Get online | UNSW Sydney.

Scroll down and select the Linux tile.

Note: During this process, you may encounter an error message advising your Linux/ browser is not supported. When this happens, you need to manually set your browser’s User-Agent to:

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Ubuntu Chromium/37.0.2062.94 Chrome/37.0.2062.94 Safari/537.36

In order to download the ArubaQuickConnect script and onboard your device to the eduroam network.

This is recommended for devices that are running the following distros:

  • Ubuntu 22.04, 21.04, 20.04, and 18.04
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 and above
  • Fedora Core 5 and above
  • Community Enterprise Operating System (CentOS) 4 and above
  • SUSE Linux 10.x

Step 3

Getting to the onboard portal

Select Get online.

Make sure to read the Terms and Conditions carefully. Select I agree, then select Next.

Then select your device type – UNSW managed or non-UNSW managed.

Type in your UNSW credentials and complete MFA when prompted.

Step 4

Download the certificate

On the UNSW Onboard Page, select Start QuickConnect

Step 5

Installing the certificate

Run the ArubaQuickConnect.sh Script as per the instructions. Select ‘Next’ when the Onboard Wizard pops up.

Note: the file may be downloaded somewhere else.

Note: you may have to give permissions to run the script by typing chmod +x [filepath]/ArubaQuickConnect.sh

Once the onboarding wizard finishes loading, select Finish.

You will now be securely connected to the Eduroam Wi-Fi network every time you are at participating institutions.
