Drug checking (‘pill testing’) and behavioural responses among a sample of Australians who regularly use drugs
The Illicit Drug Reporting System (IDRS) and the Ecstasy and Related Drugs Reporting System (EDRS) are national drug monitoring systems intended to identify emerging trends of local and national concern in illicit drug markets and form part of Drug Trends.
People who use illicit drugs engage in harm-reduction strategies based on perceived substance contents. However, there is no recent research into how Australians who consume drugs engage with drug checking. This paper looks at how respondents from the EDRS and the IDRS engaged with drug testing and the actions they took after obtaining the results of drug checking.
