This page guides UNSW staff and service owners and explains the SSO service for both internal users (those with a zID) and external users accessing an approved external-facing UNSW service.

SSO for internal users (zID holders)

Single sign-on (SSO) is a session and user authentication service that permits you to access multiple applications using one set of login credentials, your zID, and password. SSO allows you to sign into University services or applications by providing your credentials once.

When an application or service exists on the SSO platform, the sign-on process alters slightly and Mutli-Factor Authentication (MFA) applies, providing additional security.

The following support materials are available:

  • SSO applications require you to:

    1. Enter our account in the following format: zID@ad.unsw.edu.au
    2. Enter your zID password
    3. You may be prompted to verify your sign-in using your authenticator.

Any subsequent SSO applications accessed may not require you to sign in again for 30 days.

  • For security reasons, when using a public or shared computer, you must sign out of applications when you have finished using them. If you do not, then other users may have the opportunity to access your account.

    • If you wish to sign out of all SSO-enabled applications in your current browser, click on (or copy and paste) this link: https://login.microsoftonline.com/common/oauth2/v2.0/logout
    • If you would like to just sign out of the application you are using, click the logout or sign out button in that application.
    1. I have attempted to login into myUNSW at work and/or use devices in other organisations external to UNSW. Why is it not signing me in?
If you are not able to access myUNSW from your non-UNSW work device, this may be because your work/other organisation external to UNSW is blocking your access to MyUNSW.  Please try again to access myUNSW from a non-work/other organisations’ device connected to your personal network such as Home Wi-Fi or mobile internet to resolve the issue. If this still does not work, please contact the UNSW IT Service Centre on 02 9385 1333.

    2. I have attempted to login into MyUNSW but I keep getting ‘You don’t have access to this message”.
If you are getting this error message, then it means you are trying to log in to myUNSW with a non-UNSW ID. Please use the Sign-out and sign in with a different account link and use your UNSW ID in the format zID@ad.unsw.edu.au to log in to MyUNSW.

    3. I am getting SSO error when signing into MyUNSW. What should I do?
If you are using a Mac/Apple device and see the error text below while trying to access myUNSW, please ensure your device meets the minimum system requirements as listed below.

      Error Text:
SSO is unable to process this request. There was an error trying to complete your request.

      Minimum system requirements / Solution:
Please ensure your Apple device is running on at least operating system version 13 or higher. For best results and security reasons, it is highly recommended to keep your device on the latest version of the operating system.

If your device is unable to be upgraded to the latest operating system, please access MyUNSW from other compatible devices.

    4. How long will my MyUNSW session stay active after signing in?
You will remain signed in for up to 12 hours automatically after which you will need to Agree and Sign On to continue.
