07/09/2021 - 12:00 - 13:00
Zoom meeting (online only)
Description
- September 07, 2021
- Speaker: Chris Donkin
- Topic: Why Preregistration Is Not Worthwhile
Abstract
In this talk, I hope to convince you that preregistration is not worthwhile – a conjecture made in Szollosi, Kellen, Navarro, Shiffrin, van Rooij, Van Zandt, and Donkin (2020) – by discussing the various arguments I have encountered against the claim. I will discuss arguments that preregistrations lead individuals to improve the quality of their research, that it allows for appropriate conclusions from statistical inference, that it protects against experimenter bias, that it provides an empirical foundation for theory, and that it works for clinical trials.
