Artist statement

Residues is a material inquiry into the interconnected relationship between communal violence and communal rape in rural post-Partition South Asia. The large-scale installation artwork exists in a constant state of becoming as wet fabric panels, suspended over bale-filled hessian bags, fade and harden over time. The work attempts to both sensorily and temporally emulate a site which depicts the aftermath of massacre, confronting viewers with the sexual and gendered violence inherent to such conflicts.
