Artwork title: Closure
In my mind, ‘Closure’ is about moving on through, and not despite, pain. Through the is assignment I sought to create a compelling story about facing hardships and coming to terms with the cause of distress. The story follows the victim of a fishing boat after escaping from their nets, not without losing her arm. Through flashbacks and current moments this story is revealed and faced head on by the protagonist. As this was my first time properly animating, I did a lot of research into how to create animated movements and fuel them with intention. I wanted the motivation of the character to be clear to the viewer, especially as there is no dialogue. However, I am painfully aware of my own skills, and I understand that at my current level I am unable to express the full extent of my ideas. It is in this respect that I am my own worst critic, as my perfectionism and frustration with my limitations led me to redo entire shots. Despite this I made it my mission to include as many of the elements of animation as I could, to bring the movements to life as much as possible. Despite my struggles, I am very proud of the final product, and I believe that I gained invaluable knowledge during its creation.
I am a first year student, currently doing a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a specialisation in animation and moving image. I enjoy drawing and painting, and I am very passionate about films and other forms of moving image. I wish to pursue a career in film post-production after university, and I am willing to do all I can to achieve my goals.
