Artwork title: Poem
It is a story between the twentieth century and ancient China that began with an unfinished poem and its tale. The video depicts a meeting in the metaverse between a poet's fan and the poet. One is stuck by the laws of the period that judge women, their behavior, and their subservient thoughts. A woman's lack of skill was considered a virtue at the time. The other is caught by the need to finish the poetry, which hasn't been finished in 300 years. She is similarly entrapped by the poet's narrative. Their meeting freed each other. The poet is given understanding and a close companion. While the girl finished the poetry with the poet in the inspiration of this one-of-a-kind encounter. The inspiration for the theme of the project comes from Chinese history, Chinese poems, and also the rise of female consciousness. China is a country with a long history, and it used to be a male-dominated society. In ancient China, females were not expected to be knowledgeable. Girls are regarded as men's property, and their ultimate goal from birth is to marry a man. Nowadays, girls are encouraged and given the opportunities to develop their interests and education as males compared to the past. The rise of women has led to the emergence of many excellent women on the market, especially female writers, and female poets, which was never imagined or expected. I am working out with the frames and combination of the techniques how illustrating the idea of the concepts in a more “poetic imagery beauty” way. I developed different kinds of animations and how they reacted with the moving image elements to create scenes like “Breaking the dimensional wall”. To achieve better results, many combinations have been abandoned and updated to create the most dramatic form of expression. The sequence of video clips is also given its unique meaning to ensure the integrity of the story.
Artwork title: ESCAPE
This video can be classified as a surrealist video. The whole 6-minute video uses the method of collage to describe kind of emotions (fear & escape). It is an experimental concept art video which focus on combining live videos with some animations and patterns. The visual elements of the video are made and edited through four software, including CSP, PR, Davinci and Nuke. CSP is a drawing editor that is available for me to paint out the elements or refine photos into what I want to use in the project. Then, I put the elements and greenscreen videos into Nuke together to make out some special effects. PR is used to edit and reorder all the clips. The color adjusting is editing in Davinci. The audio is divided into two parts. It includes heartbeat and music played backwards. Heartbeat is the first thing that comes to my mind when I think about emotions. The strong heartbeat provides the audience with a sense of pressure, and this is what I really want to achieve in my project. Additionally, the inversed soundtrack creates a sense of horror and queer, which really fit the color balance of the video. It also provides people with a sense of discomfort. This is the same feeling that these emotions give me.
I am a third-year student who studies Media Art and Education at UNSW. As a Chinese student, I am looking forward to hhavingthe ability and skills to illustrate Chinese artistic conceptions toward other places. During my academic career, moving image and special effects are the two directions I chose in my studies. In my spire time, i am interested in self-learning animation and creating 2D illustrations. In my final project in my media art course, I challenged myself to create footage talking about Chinese poems and the collision of ideas between old society and new society.
