Artist statement

‘Contemplating Grief’ is a charcoal self-portrait overlayed with a projection of an audio-reactive point cloud. Lidar scans were collected from the natural environment and digitally animated to respond to the sound of ocean waves and a heart rate monitor. Echoing my experience of grieving the loss of a sister, the artwork reflects the perpetual sense of dislocation from physical surroundings in bereavement. Dissipating memories of the past invade and overshadow the present, de-linearising one’s perception of time within a world that enduringly moves forward around you.
