Artist statement

Balikbayan box is a sculpture made using conté on chiffon fabric, gold foil and paper on carboard box, and additional  digital processes. It involves print transfer collage of images,  self-portrait drawing, and assemblage to construct the Filipino  sun onto the sculpture. Biro pen and coloured pencil drawings are also transformed to create digital stickers, which decorate the box. This work explores rasquache expression, paying  tribute to my cultural memories and upbringing in the Philippines.
