Murphy’s Nightmare is a 2D frame-by-frame animation based off on the orange cube character named Murphy McSwagman who first appeared in one of my previous works ‘Swagger’. He is a construction worker who embodies the endearing attributes of the typical young Australian tradee: slacking off to look cool in front of his co-workers while still getting work done anyways. The animation style is based off what I did in Swagger – which is a level I made that centre around non-linear and risky gameplay in Geometry Dash which won ‘Best Insane’ category in 2023 – with clear lines and exaggerated cube formations to give these icons a great range of expression. To achieve this result, I created multiple animations in Procreate using its Animation Assist feature with a green screen backdrop to then be chroma-keyed in Premiere Pro to allow for an animation that can be put on top of a drawn background. Additionally, music (looping, channel modification), SFX, audio mixing, colour correction and general composition were also done in Premiere Pro using adjustment layers, audio effects and several available tracks. This was made within 5 weeks, starting from Term 2, Week 5 to Week 9.
