STUDENT'S ARTWORK

ARTIST STATEMENT

The theme for the assessment was the “impossible space”, and I wanted to develop a themed park in space. I was inspired by the animation “Futurama”, in one of the episodes the story takes place in a space mini golf place. I have also drawn inspiration from the Tron Light-cycle Power Run in Shanghai Disneyland, Super Mario Land in Universal Studio Japan and the Ferris Wheel in Luna Park Sydney. I built the 3D models, added textures and lighting, animated and rendered all in Maya.

ARTIST INTRODUCTION

My name is Shumeng, and some of my friends call me Emma. I am a master of design student with a great passion for animation and VFX. I didn’t come from a traditional art background, my undergraduate degree was in Finance but I have always had a great interest in superhero movies, which is where I was inspired to be in the animation and VFX field. I only started to learn 3D modelling in 2023, “Space Amusement Park” was my first animation and VFX related project.
