STUDENT'S ARTWORK

ARTIST STATEMENT

The Cave is a 3D environment of an abandoned mine that was partially excavated, leaving behind a pristine bioluminescent cave untouched by the excavation. This environment was inspired by the Waitomo Glowworm caves in New Zealand, with the cave being lit by blue lights that contrast the preceding dark rocky corridor. The viewer is dropped down a mine shaft by a broken hoist, and walks through a dark, narrow cave dotted with remains of a mine until being greeted by the bright, bioluminescent cave that ends the scene. The work was built in the game engine Unity, with models made in Maya, texturing in Substance Painter, and sound design done in Reaper.

ARTIST INTRODUCTION

Hello, I'm Alan and I'm currently 3 years into my Media Arts / Computer Science double degree. I’m interested in all forms of art and expression, but my main passion is in entertainment art. My passion in entertainment art ranges from art that’s displayed to the viewer to the planning and pre-visualisation behind each work.
