STUDENT'S ARTWORK

ARTIST STATEMENT

Watchers of Xin is a rendered video work which depicts the point of view of an AI bird flying across a newfound city called Xin. This work visualises the future of human society within a city in the midst of construction and development. With the employment of visual element of camera animation and audio element of music and sound effects, I aim to explore the underlying themes of monitoring and dystopian oppression. The process of this work began from brainstorming and researching themes including Cyberpunk and Chinatown which are the main elements of my work; from there and my inspirations of personal experiences in China, I developed concept sketches, gray box and all components that allowed me to finally create a city scene in Autodesk Maya. The final sequence of 1080 frames is rendered in approximately 30 hours with the use of a render farm of 100 computers.

Artwork medium: Rendered video from Autodesk Maya
